Св. Антоний Великий, или Египетский, преподобный (251 - 356)
St Antony the Great, or St Anthony of Egypt
St Anthony of Egypt, was born in the middle of the third century in Upper Egypt, while still young he withdrew into the desert, where he was repeatedly tempted by the devil.
Remaining steadfast, he attracted a number of disciples to a hermit's life in the desert.
He was then again driven to solitude, and went further into the desert towards the Red Sea, where he lived alone until over the age of one hundred years.
He is generally represented as an old man wearing the habit of a hospitaller, carrying a cross in the shape of a T and, occasionally, a little bell.
