Rogier van der Weyden
- история:
- Рогир ван дер Вейден (1400 - 1464), художник
»
- He was the most important artist at work in fifteenth century Flanders (roughly modern Belgium).
- He had the studio in the Cantersteen, the goldsmiths' quarter of Brussels.
- In ~1435 Rogier became the town painter of Brussels, a position he held until his death.
He received many commissions from town councils and clerics which led to his works being prominently displayed in many religious and public structures in Brussels.
- Rogier painted for a wide audience and his compositions were so popular that they were often copied.
Rogier's compositions are austere and deeply religious in feeling, their effect on the viewer is quite different from the all-consuming realism of his countryman and contemporary Jan van Eyck.
