- He worked as an illustrator, signing his early work as Harun-al-Rashid (Aroun-al-Racid) in deference to its Turkish 'orientalism' influence.
- For nearly two decades Brunelleschi illustrated books and Parisian fashion magazines before his 1914 return to Italy where, for the duration of the war, he continued to work as a magazine illustrator.
After the war, back in Paris, Brunelleschi designed stage sets and costumes.
In the 1920's and 1930's he designed for La Scala in Milan, for the Folies Bergere in Paris, and for New York’s Roxy Theatre.
Brunelleschi is remembered as the costume designer for the performer Josephine Baker.
