- This cartoon by Dave Brown from The Independent relates to the victory of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in Russia's presidential election on Sunday.
- The cartoonist uses the metaphor of Russian nesting dolls to make the point that Putin's win was no surprise at all, since the dolls are all the same. With 99% of the vote counted, Mr Putin had received nearly 65 percent of the vote, well over the 50 percent needed for victory in the first round. However, opposition groups have reported widespread fraud, with many people voting more than once. In this context, the cartoon's title can be seen as ironic.
