Doubting of St Thomas, or Incredulity of St Thomas
- история:
- The story is taken from the Gospel according to John [20:19 - 29].
Whereas in 11th- and 12th-century Russian painting, as also in Byzantine painting of the same period, the figure of Christ was frontally disposed and the buildings and groups of apostles were presented symmetrically, in 14th- and 15th-century painting the figure of Christ was alredy slightly slanted, the groups of apostles and buildings were asymmetrical, and on the left-hand side there was a curving wall.
Always placed behind Christ is a doorway, in keeping with the Gospel mention of the locked door.
